The complex situation we are living in today reminds me of the Midrash about the legendary Bird, who refused to taste from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and thus gained eternal life. The Midrash explains that after a thousand years, the body of the bird decays, and then it returns to life. This bird serves as a metaphor for the Jewish people, who renew themselves from generation to generation and from disaster to revival, as Rabbi Tzadok HaKohen of Lublin wrote: "In the secret of what is written, 'You shall renew yourself like the eagle,' and the good will prevail over the bad, and they will turn to good."
