Artist Ira Goldman writes:

"In the painting, I am a tender infant, carried in the arms of my parents—both of whom are deaf.

Since birth, I have lived between two worlds: the world of silence and the world of sound.

As the first hearing child of deaf parents, I served as the bridge between them and the outside world—between inside and outside, between languages, between worlds. I carried opposites within me: both voice and silence, both outward and inward—and I tried to connect them into a single whole.

From silence, I learned to listen. To be my parents’ voice—and also to find and express my own."
