In ceramics the burning of the object is the moment of truth. This is a hidden moment, where all of a sudden you are not in control. You can work for a long time, plan, and watch, but once you open the kiln – there is always a surprise! 

This art piece is an experiment. Exactly what we usually try to prevent – which is drips – I actually want to use this feature as a tool that I can control and really use. I noticed that the shape, the amount and the size of the holes affect the accumulation of glass drops on the vessel during the burning in the kiln. 

A series of photographs documenting the vessel before and after the fire was also made. 

The moment of fire is a metaphor for the present moment that can change everything. Every person who engages in ceramics, learns to accept these surprises as gifts
