The artist's body of work expresses the tension of opposites: between inner and outer worlds, between what appears whole and what is broken, between white that covers black, and between the good and evil inclinations—both active within the human soul.

Artist Miriam Halishawer explains:

“Is your inner self black or white?

We cannot judge a person by their appearance. Some may seem harsh but are full of compassion, while others appear pure yet conceal darkness.

Each of us holds both good and evil inclinations. We cannot eliminate the darkness—just as we cannot be rid of our shadow—but we can weaken it by strengthening the light within us.”
