This is a drawing of my grandmother Deborah Zandman's ID card, may she rest in peace, who passed away about ten years ago. My grandmother survived the Holocaust, and what the evil Nazis did was to remove people`s name and assign a number to each person, in order to conduct a psychological warfare that nullifies the personal identity of the individual. I thought about how every person's ID card is a summary of the song "Every Person Has a Name." The ID card contains the most basic data that defines each and every person: date of birth, parents' names, place of residence, marital status, and in the past, it detailed even the color of their eyes and hair. The only thing that does not appear on the ID card is the person's date of death. I was inspired by my grandmother's ID card because it represents everything the Nazis wanted to erase, and in fact, what all the nations throughout generations wanted to erase – but despite it all, Am Yisrael Chai!
